Dear Travel Fan, With more than a half dozen recent incidents involving air travel, I know many people’s anxiety level has been raised, so this week we took a look at air safety. Come winter, it seems like travelers divide into two camps: people who embrace the season and those who flee it. Whichever camp you fall into, we’re here to help, with looks at the classic Mexican beach resort of Puerto Vallarta and at the equally classic Canadian ski town of Banff (where we spend 36 Hours). A bonus for the skiers: We put the Indy Pass, which focuses on smaller ski mountains, to the test. The new season of “The White Lotus” has started, and we have one of its stars, Natasha Rothwell, telling us about her favorite places in a city she loves and knows well, London. (We’ve also taken a look at Koh Samui, the resort town where much of the series was filmed and, of course, made Thailand one of our 52 Places to Go this year.) Among the federal government workers who have been laid off or fired under the Trump administration are thousands of National Parks and National Forest Service employees. What will that mean if you’re planning a trip to one of these recreation areas? We examine the situation. We’ve also got helpful advice: If you’re traveling abroad, the strong dollar means your trip will cost less. Our Frugal Traveler tells you how to maximize the savings. And more women are deciding they want to travel solo. We have tips on how to plan a trip and stay safer. Finally, we want to hear from you. In just a few weeks we will be hitting the five-year anniversary of the start of the Covid pandemic, which shut travel down globally. How did the pandemic change the way you travel? Please let us know. Wishing you fulfilling and happy travels,
