We have been finishing up lots of projects in art and beginning new ones. Kindergarten students made absolutely adorable paintings showing their favorite season and are now starting collage. First grade artists finished up a printmaking unit (they all clapped and cheered when I showed them how to do it!) and are now making clay cupcakes. Second grade artists finished up an animal collagraph print and are now making paper weavings. Third grade artists have finished an emotion collagraph print and are making clay food sculptures. Fourth grade artists finished a narrative collage series and are now working on using gesture drawing in a self-portrait. Fifth grade artists finished up dreamscape paintings and learned about color theory and now are making a collage showing globally influenced architecture. Multi age and pre-K artists continue to explore different art materials and are trying new ways to use materials in stations.
Ms. Radke’s classes have been working on paintings, clay, and collage. We have been really busy in room 25!
We REALLY need more baby wipes (we wiped out our supply in printmaking-pun intended) in the art room, so if you have some to spare or can donate, please drop them off in the office. Thank you so much!
Admission is free. Pizza, snacks, and drinks as well as glow accessories and spirit wear will all be available for purchase starting at 6:00pm. Dancing begins at 6:30 p.m.
Families are encouraged to wear white and/or neon colors and comfortable shoes as our P.E. teachers will be leading party dances as well as Zumba-style dances.
Note: Students attending must be accompanied by an adult who will supervise them throughout the event.
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has issued a new waiver allowing students fasting during the school day from February 28 to March 28, 2025, to request take-home breakfast and lunch meal kits. The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) will provide meal kits reflecting the school menu. Meals will be kept cold and must be heated at home. Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day. Meal kits must be picked up by students at the end of the school day; adults cannot collect them. However, parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:
-
February 24, 2025, for February 28 and the week of March 3, 2025
-
March 3, 2025, for the week of March 10, 2025
-
March 10, 2025, for the week of March 17, 2025
-
March 17, 2025, for the week of March 24, 2025
Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.

Due to inclement weather and school closures the Bren Mar Park Elementary School Pre-Construction Community Meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 12 has been postponed. It will now take place on Thursday, February 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Language interpretation services will be available.
Are you interested in being on a Renovation Purchasing Decision Committee? Staff and families who express interest will be invited to sit in on sales pitches around different school-based design decisions, such as student desks and chairs, office seating, etc. They will share their feedback and recommendation on styles, colors, design and overall preferred purchases. Input will be taken into consideration for the final decision-making. Much of this will take place on different days throughout the summer months; it would be ok if an interested person could not attend all of the presentations.
If you are interested in being considered for this opportunity, please email Principal Williams.
Fairfax County Public Schools will adopt new Mathematics Instructional Resources for the 2025-2026 (secondary) and 2026-2027 (elementary) school years. Our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.
All students in grades 3-6, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 24. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 24, and Friday, March 7. Any student may take the survey at home, if they are unable to take the survey during the school day. You will receive a communication with details on how to preview the survey and opt your child out, if you choose.
We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the five equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals.

This is my 3nd year at BMP, but my 5th year at FCPS. I moved to Northern Virginia in 2002 after graduating from Florida State University. In my past life, I worked in television (audience measurement and programming).
I enjoy going on trips (big Disney fan) with my husband and daughter.
