First witnesses expected to testify in Matthew Farwell trial after new motions

Prosecutors are expected to call their first witnesses to the stand today in Matthew Farwell’s trial, but first the judge is expected to address two motions that were filed over the holiday weekend.

The former Stoughton, Massachusetts, police officer is facing federal charges in the death of Sandra Birchmore and her unborn child. Prosecutors allege Farwell initiated a sexual relationship with Birchmore when she was just 15 years old and accuse him of killing her after she told him about her pregnancy and threatened to expose their relationship.

We expect to hear testimony Tuesday from the person who kickstarted the initial investigation, the woman who called police to do a wellness check on Birchmore when she did not show up for work.

Dreary, cool day with a few rain showers – more solid rain expected later this week

Today will feel light years from yesterday.

We’ll start with a stiff northeast wind – a clear sign the back door cold front has moved through. Most spots only manage mid and upper 50s, with others on the South Shore/Cape/Islands reaching into the low 60s.

A few showers will cross from time to time, but this isn’t a washout for many locations. Northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire have the best chance for a half inch (or more) of rain, while the rest of southern New England sees a tenth to a quarter inch. All the rain will move away later tonight, with clearing moving in early tomorrow.
