Good morning, Chicago. I’m not a runner. I never have been. But I gained a whole new perspective on why people are so committed to that form of exercise when I read marathoner Kyra Marcano’s op-ed on her journey. The benefits she has reaped have been wide-ranging, and her meditation is particularly timely with Chicago’s marathon happening on Sunday. Whether or not you pound pavement for fitness, it’s worth your time.

Also in commentary, good government advocate David Greising provides quite a useful summary of the controversies plaguing the candidates for Chicago school board president, and a physician explains how Medicaid cuts actually threaten the training of Chicago’s future doctors.

The Tribune Editorial Board rolls out more endorsements for contested state Senate races, specifically Districts 24 through 35, and will continue to publish endorsements for the General Assembly this weekend.

And in letters, a couple of readers have some strong thoughts to offer in response to Steve Chapman’s column on Islamophobia and its presence in Republican politics. We really appreciate feedback to our content from readers!

Enjoy your weekend, folks. We’ll be back in your inboxes on Monday.
