Why everyone should start a personal brandHey zxcv, it’s Mark. I recently hit 9 million subscribers on my YouTube channel and since then a lot of you have been asking me about building a personal brand. So I’m going to start speaking about it a bit more, and revealing some secrets that I’ve used to grow this fast (so you can use them too). Today, I wanted to start by sharing the 3 reasons you should seriously consider building a personal brand, sooner rather than later. 1. You’re Probably Sitting On A Gold Mine The skills you’ve picked up, the mistakes you’ve made, and the lessons you’ve learned are all valuable to someone else. And that’s exactly what you can use to build a personal brand. You just need to be one step ahead of the person watching you. To them, your content is incredibly valuable. So if I started from scratch, I’d write down three things that people already ask me for help with. Then I would pick one and just start sharing what I know and what I’m currently learning. I started by sharing the money lessons I learnt the hard way, as they’re not taught in schools. If you’d told me when I first started that it would lead to 9 million subscribers, I would have been shocked. So who knows where your personal brand could take you? Starting now is the only way you’ll ever find out. 2. One Post Could Change Your Life The opportunities that a personal brand can bring are almost endless. You never know who’s watching your content. Your brand could bring you a whole new network, trips abroad, collabs with other creators, and a thriving business. When you have a personal brand, you honestly never know what kind of opportunities are just around the corner. One of the most surreal moments for me was seeing myself on a billboard in the middle of Times Square and no I didn’t pay to be up there. A brand I’d worked with put me on it. That opportunity only came because of the personal brand I’d built and the connections that came with it. Unfortunately, most people quit right before their brand starts to take off. I’d recommend posting consistently for at least 30 days before judging whether it’s working. You don’t need to go viral or get millions of followers. The key is just making your skills and ideas visible to the right people. 3. AI Can Copy Everything Except You AI can recreate information and content, but it can’t copy the life you’ve lived. Your experiences, mistakes, stories and point of view are yours alone. That’s what can make a personal brand one of the most valuable assets you ever build, because it can’t simply be replaced by AI. But only if you make a conscious effort to separate yourself from generic AI content. So make sure to make content like a human not a robot… talk about what happened to you, what you got wrong, and your unique opinions. And if share a tip, add the story behind how you learned it. That’s what makes your content difficult to copy. AI can repeat the advice, but it can’t recreate the experience that gave you the advice in the first place. For example, I often tell people to avoid credit card debt. But I don’t just say it’s bad. I tell them about the time I got into credit card debt myself, and what it taught me. That’s what makes the advice valuable.
