Dear aaa,
They say a circus looks after its own, but the opposite holds true for the wild animals it tortures into submission.
Circuses rely on fear, confinement, and domination to force wild animals to perform tricks that are unnatural and harmful for them. |

|
| But stress can’t be trained away. Trauma can’t be rehearsed out. Their instincts don’t disappear. Wild animals cannot be tamed without pain. |
This sad reality was made all too clear for tigress Princess. Her story is heartbreaking, but it’s one that needs to be told.
Princess and her companions Kenya and Samba endured more than a decade of exploitation in a travelling circus in Slovakia. Day in, day out, they were confined to small cages on endless journeys. No room to roam. No room to stretch. No room to exist. |
| No animal should endure torture for entertainment. Will you free big cats from exploitation and confinement? |
When Slovakia banned the use of wild animals in circuses in 2018, Princess, Kenya and Samba’s ordeal should have ended. But while the performances stopped, they remained trapped in inadequate conditions in the very same cages that were used to transport them during the travelling shows, deprived of the care they desperately needed.
The circus owners agreed to surrender the three tigers and reached out to us for help. But tragically for Princess, help came too late.
Our veterinary team discovered she was suffering from severe liver and kidney disease. After years of neglect and hardship, they made the difficult but compassionate decision to help Princess pass away peacefully.
Thanks to you, Samba and Kenya are safe. Together, we can do the same for the big cats still trapped in circuses today.
Instead of being blinded by the harsh light on stage, they now bask in the sun.
Instead of performing harmful tricks under duress, they play in their vast enclosures.
Instead of being dragged across Europe in tiny cages, they enjoy the freedom, comfort and care every tiger deserves. |
| But sadly, there are still big cats around the world enduring lives of confinement and neglect, waiting for their chance at a better future. |
Big cats are bred and sold for entertainment in Europe. You can help change that.
The fate of circus tigers like Samba, Kenya and Princess highlights the suffering and long journeys of big cats traded and used for entertainment in Europe.
|
| "Compared to Slovakia, a few other European countries still lag behind. Germany, for example, still allows circuses to keep and exploit wild animals for shows and legally keep big cats in tiny indoor enclosures of only 12m² and outdoor enclosures of only 50 m²."
