Passengers who intervened to wrest control of a flydubai plane are being hailed as heroes after one of the pilots stabbed the other and allegedly attempted to crash the plane.

Flydubai midair chaos: Israel will ramp up flight security after a pilot stabbed his colleague and "apparently tried to crash the plane", according to Benjamin Netanyahu.

The majority of the passengers on flight FZ1073 were Israeli and authorities there are treating the emergency as a terror attack. Mr Netanyahu says the plane only landed safely because other people took control. 

During the incident, the plane plunged about 4,000 metres in less than 30 seconds. Flydubai says a "formal investigation" is underway.
