Social media can help grow your business, but not every post works the same way. If you want results, you need to use three different types of content. Each one has a different job, and they work best when combined.
First, remember this: not all your posts will perform equally. Some will get lots of views, others won’t. That’s normal. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube show people content based on what they like. So if you only post one type of content—especially if you’re always trying to sell—people will lose interest.
That’s why you need three types of content: attention, trust, and action.
The first type is attention content. This is content that makes people stop scrolling and notice you. These people don’t know you yet, so your goal is to grab their attention quickly.
You can do this by sharing simple, real moments. For example, a short “day in your life,” something funny or frustrating, or a quick opinion about your topic. These videos don’t need to be perfect. In fact, raw and unedited content often works better because it feels real.
This kind of content makes people think, “That’s true” or “That’s interesting.” It helps them discover you. But attention alone doesn’t make people buy. It just makes them curious.
The second type is trust content, also called authority content. This is where you show that you understand your topic and can help people.
You can explain how something works step by step, answer common questions, or share useful tips. When people see you teaching clearly and consistently, they start to trust you. They think, “This person knows what they’re talking about.”
Trust is very important because people only buy from those they trust. Without trust, you’re just another voice online.
The third type is action content. This is when you ask people to take the next step, like buying your product, booking a service, or signing up.
You can show results, tell success stories, or demonstrate your product. This helps people think, “I want this” or “I’m ready to try it.”
But this only works if you’ve already built attention and trust. If you only post sales content like “buy now,” people will ignore you because they don’t know or trust you yet.
This is a common mistake. Many businesses only try to sell. They believe their product is so good that people will just buy it. But that’s not how social media works.
For example, McDonald’s doesn’t have the best burger in the world, but they are great at marketing. That’s why they are successful. Good marketing is often more important than having the “perfect” product.
So the key is to combine all three:
Attention gets people to notice you
Trust makes them believe in you
Action gets them to buy from you
When you use all three together, your content starts to work like a system. Attention leads to trust, and trust leads to action.
If you stay consistent with this approach, your audience will grow, your brand will become stronger, and your business will improve over time.
