The VA Maryland Health Care System’s (VAMHCS) Department of Respiratory Care recently earned the prestigious Apex Designation from the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). To receive this highly sought-after honor, a respiratory care department must consistently demonstrate best practices in the profession. The VAMHCS team is one of just 48 designees nationwide to be recognized.

The Apex program distinguishes medical facilities for their commitment to excellence in professional development and delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. “The AARC Apex Designation honors respiratory care departments and educational programs that exemplify excellence in evidence-based care and uphold the highest standards in patient care and education,” said AARC President, Dana Evans, MHA, RRT, RRT-NPS, FACHE, FAARC, FNAP. “These organizations are leaders in our field, setting the standard for high-quality respiratory therapy. Earning the Apex Designation reflects not only specialized clinical and educational expertise, but also a deep commitment to advancing care for patients of all ages in the communities they serve. The AARC is proud to recognize the 2027-2028 Apex designees for their exceptional contributions to our profession.”

Developed in in 2017, the AARC Apex Designation recognizes respiratory care departments and programs that demonstrate high-quality care and outstanding higher education. This achievement highlights the hard work and tireless dedication of the VAMHCS respiratory care team in providing safe, quality, and compassionate care to Veterans.
