Here’s a question I get from guitar students all the time:
“How good should I be at a lesson before I move on to something else?”
Do you need to play it perfectly?
Do you need to get it all the way up to speed?
Should you keep working on the same tune or solo until you’ve completely mastered it?
I think a lot of guitar players get stuck because they approach lessons almost like school assignments.
Finish this one. Get an A. Then you’re allowed to move on to the next one.
But that’s not really how musical development works.
So in my newest video, I’ll show you the 3 simple tests I use to decide when a student is ready to move on—and why moving on doesn’t mean you’re finished with the material you’ve already learned.
