Fatherhood changes the brain. And it seems to change hiring decisions, too—if a
new dad’s first-born is a girl.
A study tracked every worker in Denmark over 25 years, and found that when a male boss had a daughter, the ratio of women’s earnings to men’s immediately rose at his firm, as did the share of women it employed. There were too few female managers to test whether motherhood has the same impact.
