I was going through some old boxes in the garage yesterday and found a stack of concert tickets from years ago. It got me thinking about how much I used to enjoy spontaneous road trips with friends. We would pack a small cooler, roll the windows down, and just drive until we found a small diner worth stopping at. Those were simpler days, but I do not miss trying to fold a paper map while sitting in the passenger seat.
My neighbor asked if I could help with her garden this weekend. She has these incredible tomato plants that always seem to grow twice as fast as mine. I suspect the secret is the compost she makes from vegetable scraps and coffee grounds. Maybe I should start saving my coffee grounds instead of throwing them away. There is something satisfying about growing your own food, even if it is just a few herbs on a windowsill.
I have been trying to learn how to bake sourdough bread, and my first few attempts looked more like flat, dense hockey pucks than actual loaves. The starter seems alive, though, and it has a nice tangy smell now. I think the issue might be my kitchen temperature. It is a little chilly in the mornings, so the dough does not rise as well as it should.
We finally figured out why the kitchen faucet was dripping. It was a worn-out washer, which was a surprisingly easy fix. We watched a short video online, went to the hardware store, and had it repaired in less than twenty minutes. Now I feel like a home repair expert, even though I know it was really a very small project.

I found a pretty decent podcast about local history the other day. The host visits old train stations and talks about how the towns grew up around them. It is the kind of thing I can listen to while folding laundry or washing dishes without losing track of the story. I have always liked the idea of learning something new in small, casual bites.
There is a small bakery near my office that makes these incredible blueberry muffins. They are not too sweet, and the berries burst a little when you bite into them. I have been meaning to ask the owner if she uses fresh or frozen blueberries, but I always forget by the time I make it to the counter. Maybe next week I will remember.
My sister is visiting in a few weeks, and we are trying to plan a day trip to a botanical garden. She loves taking photos of unusual flowers, and I mostly enjoy sitting on a bench and reading while she wanders around with her camera. We have done this a few times before, and it always ends up being a relaxed, unhurried day.
I have been experimenting with making my own granola instead of buying it at the store. It is surprisingly easy, and I can control how much honey goes in. The last batch had a little too much cinnamon, but it still tasted good over yogurt with some sliced banana. Small kitchen wins like that make the week feel a bit more manageable.
