Honestly I thought the new schedule would be more of a headache but it ended up being really easy to keep track of after the first week. I was rushing around trying to remember which bin went out and then I noticed the little calendar reminder on my fridge and just leaned into it. My neighbor came over to borrow a screwdriver and saw the chart and said it looked overly organized but we laughed about it. Later that afternoon the dog decided to dig up the corner of the yard again so I spent most of the evening filling in the hole and replanting the little shrubs. Some days feel like a revolving door of little fixes around the house. I finally got the pantry reorganized too and found three jars of the same spice because I kept buying them for one recipe and forgetting I already had them. Now everything is sorted by how often I use it. The whole system sounds fussy but it actually makes the week flow better. Even the kids have stopped asking where things go. It took maybe an hour on a rainy Sunday and now the kitchen feels twice as big.

I keep telling myself I'll get better about watering the plants on the porch but then the week gets away from me and I'm out there with a half-empty watering can at sunset. Last night I noticed the little succulent finally started to sprout a new leaf so I must be doing something right. My aunt called to ask if I still had the recipe for that lemon cake we made last spring and I had to dig through three notebooks before I found it tucked behind a grocery list from months ago. The cat sat on the counter the whole time watching me like I was performing a magic trick. After that I decided to clear off the table by the window because it had become a landing zone for random mail and single socks. It feels much calmer in the kitchen now. I'm thinking about moving the little lamp from the bedroom into that corner so there's nicer light in the evening. Small changes like that make the whole place feel more settled.
