Outing myself as a science nerd, I was fascinated by a study out this morning in Nature. Stanford researchers replaced the cortex of a mouse — fully half of its brain by volume — with human cells. The researchers plan to use it as a model for diseases like frontotemporal dementia and genetic forms of autism that have been impossible to study in a living brain. I have the details here. |
