Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

So far this year we have yet to center on 2nd and 4th grade. I’m happy to report that second graders participated in an assessment that looked for their knowledge at the sound, word, and sentence levels (punctuation included). Ask your child (any grade really) for an example of a “heart” word and why it's called that. It was great to see how quickly a chime can center the room or how easily students move to their next known task.

4th graders, orally and in writing, summarized or built arguments related to either “Goldilocks on Trial” or opinions about traffic and noise pollution. Additionally, they were identifying the long o sound or adding a creative response to waking up in their own home and finding all the food gone-some siblings were definitely quickly blamed as being the “Goldilocks”; parents you seem to have avoided this accusation!

Please take the short Family Partnership Night Survey, taking place on 10/22 to identify preferences for the evening event. The top of the form explains the purpose of it; the form will close on 9/18 to allow us to build sessions and schedules. More to come.

Volunteers Needed for Picture Day

We are looking for a few volunteers to help during Picture Day on October 15th from 10:00 am–3:00 pm. Volunteers can work half the day or the full day and will receive a discount on pictures. Interested? Please contact Elssie Ramos at Eramos@fcps.edu.

Washington Capitals’ Annual Educator’s Appreciation Night is October 17

Enjoy an evening with fellow educators at Capital One Arena while the Caps host the New Jersey Devils at 1:00 pm. All teachers, administrators, school staff, students, and families are encouraged to attend the game at a discounted rate, along with receiving an exclusive gift. Tickets are available through this special link (Educators Appreciation presented by KPMG) and each ticket comes with a complimentary Educators Night Sweatshirt! Educators Night SOLD OUT last season, so if you are interested in attending please get your tickets ASAP! Also, you may nominate a deserving educator who makes a difference at your school and represents #ALLCAPS! Important Update from the Town of Vienna

Town of Vienna Parks and Recreation needs your help keeping community spaces safe and clean! Please note that e-bikes and e-scooters are strictly prohibited on all athletic fields, including Waters Field. Additionally, Waters Field is NOT permitted as an after-school hangout spot for students.

Recent misuse has led to safety hazards, litter, and turf damage, prompting local officials and police to increase preventive measures and lock field gates. We ask parents to discuss these rules with their students to help preserve these spaces for scheduled athletic use. Thank you for your support in keeping our community grounds safe!

Mini Cougar Camp

Oakton HS Cheer Camp for Kids is taking place on September 21st with the opportunity to have the kids attend the Future Oakton Cougar night on October 9th. This is similar to the big event that Madison holds for their football game opening season.

Bike Train Tuesdays Are Back!

Get ready to roll! The Marshall Road Bike Train returns Tuesday, September 2 at 8:30 am. Registration for Fall Enrichments is STILL OPEN !

Registration for PTA sponsored fall enrichment classes will be open until Wednesday, September 16th at 9:00 pm. This fall offerings include Fitness Warriors, Chess, Flag Football, Kickball, Cooking, Science Olympiad, Garden Club, Minecraft, Yoga, and MORE!
