Woodson Weekly is published every Monday to provide the community with important information about school life at Woodson High School.

Dear Woodson Community

What an exciting game last Thursday against Oakton! Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer on our team—it was a hard-fought match, and our Cavaliers made us proud.

I also want to thank everyone for their cooperation as we implement the new FCPS policies regarding weapons screening and permitted stadium items. As a reminder, you can review the full guidelines.

Here are a few important updates and upcoming events over the next few weeks:

Back to School Night | This Thursday I hope you had a chance to look over the notification sent out last week, but if not, full details are available in the Cav Come Back Kit. The main event begins at 6:00 p.m., where families will have the opportunity to walk through schedules and meet their students' teachers.

First PTSO Meeting | Tuesday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m. Join us in the library for our first PTSO meeting of the year! This will be our only in-person PTSO meeting this school year, making it a great opportunity to get connected and start the year strong. I hope to see you all there.

PSAT / SAT Testing Day | Wednesday, October 7

9th Graders: No school (do not report).
10th–12th Graders: 2-hour early release schedule.
Seniors: Seniors must have pre-registered in advance to take the SAT.

There will be no school next Monday, September 21. To all members of our Jewish community observing Yom Kippur, we wish you an easy and meaningful fast.

Checking out early?

The best and most efficient way to check your student out of school early is to send a note with them to take to the Attendance Office in the morning!

Your student will receive a pass to leave class at the time you specify.
You won't need to come inside the school; your student will simply come out to meet you.

Please be aware that if you sign your student out in person, it can take up to 30 minutes for the pass to reach them, making sending a note the quickest option!

For emergencies or last-minute appointments, you can also call the 24-hour attendance line at 703-503-4800 and leave a message.

Important Reminders:

Email is not accepted for reporting absences or early checkouts.
If a student becomes sick during the school day, they must be checked out through the clinic, not the attendance office. Please ask your child to go to the clinic if they are not feeling well.

PSAT/SAT October 7th

On Wednesday, October 7, all FCPS high schools will operate on a two-hour early release schedule. There is no school for 9th-grade students. Dismissal for upperclassmen is at 12:25 PM, followed by a grab-and-go lunch. Buses will depart at 12:55 PM.

10th and 11th graders will take the PSAT/NMSQT exam.
Registered 12th graders will take the SAT School Day exam (students would have received a confirmation email upon submitting the registration form)

High school academy courses and shuttles will be canceled on this day. FCPS will provide regular bus transportation in the morning and after the early release.

Prior to the test, students will complete a digital readiness check that includes an optional pre-survey. If you wish to opt your child out of the pre-survey, you must email Kathleen Crosson by Thursday September 17, 2025. You'll need to include your student's full legal name and FCPS Student ID number.

Yearbooks

The yearbook is currently $70, the lowest price of the year. Our price will increase to $80 after 12/31.

Senior ads are also available for purchase, with prices ranging from $40-380, depending on size.

Families can purchase their yearbook or senior’s baby ad on yearbookordercenter.com, using the code 5278.

Student Services

Counselor Corner

School is in full swing! Counselors are working hard to support students' wellness and academic success. We focus on the Social and Emotional Learning of students, helping to support students where they are. We will share some resources and supports with 9th graders this week through Social Studies classes, emphasizing starting the school year off well, getting connected to the Woodson community, and resources available to students so they have a successful high school experience. We highlight our Woodson Wellness site and Freshman padlet from our main Student Services padlet (please bookmark).

College application season is here! Counselors met with seniors on 8/28 and 9/1 to share important senior year planning info, Senior Checklist , Senior Year Road Map and refresh on the importance of organization. A transcript processed on time is one that was requested on time. We require 20 school days to upload transcripts, complete Secondary Reports, write recommendation letters, and submit all documents. Note our transcript request timeline deadlines. All students must submit a Consent form IS-111 and a Transcript Request Form on time in order for us to submit transcripts. For Counselor recommendation letters, students must complete the self-evaluation google form for their counselor. Parents may email the Parent Info Form to their child’s counselor; it’s helpful but not required.

The schedule change request window has closed. Counselors are working to maneuver the last few changes. All students should be settling into their classes for the year. We wish all Cavaliers an awesome year!
