Save the Date! Uc for a Webinar on the Garfield Papers

Mark your calendars! By the People is thrilled to present a very special webinar on Sept. 24, "Slumbering Thunder in His Soul: Exploring the Life and Death of James A. Garfield In His Papers," with Garfield Papers curator, Michelle Krowl.

This webinar will tell the story of the 20th President through his own letters and diaries, as well as those of his wife, Lucretia, and additional context from other Library of Congress collections. Krowl will also discuss Garfield's relationship with Librarian of Congress Ainsworth Rand Spofford, how the Garfield Papers came to the Library of Congress, and insights gained through volunteer transcription of the collection. The webinar is open to all, but registration is required. Please share with anyone who might be interested!

Can you read Spanish? Latin? Catalan?

We need your talents for the Spanish Legal Documents collection! These briefs, laws, and court rulings from the 1300s to 1700s shed light on the struggles, hopes, and triumphs of people across the societal spectrum. Through transcription, the Law Library has found fascinating histories within these seemingly dry legal texts, from French hat smuggling, to 18th century marriage orders and their consequences, and how Havana became British…for eleven months.

Transcription Save Errors Update
