We were going back and forth about whether to replace the deck boards before summer gets here or just sand and reseal what is already down. After looking at the far corner near the grill, I think it might be worse than we thought. Some of those boards feel soft underfoot and one of them has a split running almost the whole length.
The plan for Saturday morning is to pull up a few of the worst sections first and see what the joists look like underneath. If the frame is still solid, we can get away with just replacing the top boards and maybe adding a couple of extra support blocks. A friend of mine has a truck we can use to haul the lumber, which saves us a delivery charge.
I also looked at composite materials but they run about double what pressure treated pine costs. For a deck this size that might not be worth it right now. We can always go that route later once the rest of the yard work is done.

The route we usually take to get to the lake has been closed for repairs since early spring so we have been using the back roads through the hills. That drive actually turned out to be nicer with less traffic and better views, but it adds about twenty minutes each way. We were thinking about leaving by seven in the morning to make the most of the daylight.
I looked at the weather outlook and it said the area around the shore might get some wind in the afternoon but should stay dry through the evening. If that holds we can set up the chairs and the small table near the east side where the trees block most of the breeze. Someone mentioned the water level is a bit lower than last year so the shoreline might be wider in spots.
Food wise we are keeping it simple with sandwiches, fruit, and some cold drinks in the cooler. No need to bring the grill this time since the fire pit area has those metal grates already set up and we can use the wood that is stacked near the parking lot.
