| |  | The annual number of A&E attendances have increased by 6.5 million since 2011-12, and costs per A&E patient have risen by a third since 2018-19.
The percentage of people waiting 12 or more hours in A&E has tripled since before the COVID-19 pandemic, and delayed discharges from hospital beds are causing bottlenecks for incoming A&E patients.
Our new report finds that the NHS has made efforts to improve the flow of patients through hospital which would help to reduce long wait times in A&E, but despite an increase in resources and staffing, improvements have been smaller than hoped for. | | Read the report | |
