Honestly I keep meaning to get back to you about that plan we sketched out last week. The more I think about it the more I like the idea of taking a different route entirely. I was up early this morning before the sunrise hit the window and I started rearranging the shelf by the door just to clear my head. There were a few old ticket stubs tucked behind the brass lamp and I could not remember which trip they belonged to. It made me realize I have been holding onto little scraps of things without any clear reason. Maybe the better move is to sort through the stack of notebooks on the kitchen table and see what still matters. I think the trip down the coast is still worth doing but we should leave the final day open instead of booking everything ahead. I would rather wake up and decide based on the weather. The place with the blue shutters near the water had a decent breakfast and the porch was quiet in the afternoon. If we do go back that way I want to stop at the produce stand before the turnoff and grab a bag of those small green apples. Anyway I should finish this note before the coffee goes cold. Let me know what you think when you get a minute.

I was just thinking about the walk we took around the reservoir a few weeks back. There was a section where the path dipped down near the reeds and the sound of the water was louder than I expected. We stopped for a while and watched a heron stand perfectly still on a half submerged log. I remember saying something about how the mornings are never long enough now that the light changes so quickly. That whole afternoon felt unhurried in a way I have been trying to recreate since. I drove past the old mill the other day and noticed the wooden gate has been repainted a darker shade of green. It looks newer but somehow less interesting. Maybe I am just nostalgic for the way things looked before. There is a bench near the north trailhead that has a small plaque with a name I did not recognize. I sat there for a bit and watched a few cyclists go by. One of them had a basket on the front with a red scarf tied to the handlebar. It made me smile. I thought about sending you a photo but my phone battery was low. Next time I go back I will make sure to charge it fully. The forecast says rain later this week so the trail might be muddy. If it clears up maybe we can walk the loop together and stop at that little bakery after.
