Designing STEM Events for Lasting Impact
CESSE
The success of a conference isn't measured only by attendance or satisfaction scores — it's measured by what happens because people gathered.
Join leading association and event professionals for a conversation about how thoughtful event design can intentionally create collaboration, innovation and lasting legacy. Inspired by the panel 'When Disciplines Collide' and informed by Destination Canada's Legacy & Impact research, we'll explore how STEM organizations can move beyond content delivery to design experiences that strengthen communities, accelerate research, and create value for members long after the closing keynote.

Telescopes, Not Microscopes: Moving Your Board Away from Operational Details
CESSE
STEM society boards are populated by people trained to verify data, check assumptions, and master the details. Most of these board members have earned their seat through technical committees, academic prominence, editorial work, or other areas where precision was the contribution. Detail is where they are strongest, so detail is where they focus.
That instinct is an asset the board brings to the wrong questions. This session will look at the levers a CEO holds to redirect it: agenda architecture, board packet design, the chair partnership, and meeting norms.
Participants will be able to separate the changes they can make on their own from those requiring the chair or a governance change, with templates ready to apply at the next board meeting. Structured peer discussion is built in.
