I was just thinking about how different the weekend felt when I actually planned nothing at all. You know, wake up with the light coming through the window, no list in my head.
I ended up rearranging a few things in the kitchen and then took a long walk near the old mill creek. Saw a couple of blue jays making a racket by the fence line.
Later I tried a new recipe that honestly took way less time than I expected. It had roasted sweet peppers and a little bit of lemon zest. My youngest said it smelled like a restaurant, which was a huge compliment.
We watched an old detective series after dinner and nobody looked at a phone for almost two hours. That never happens on a normal weeknight for us.
The whole day kind of reminded me that sometimes the best reset is just slowing everything down and doing regular things without rushing. I should probably do that more often instead of waiting until I feel completely drained.
Anyway, hope your week is starting off easy. Tell me what you ended up doing if you get a second.

I tried making a new batch of cold brew with a touch of cinnamon this morning, and honestly it's better than the coffee shop down the street. We've been going there for years, but this version is smoother.
My neighbor dropped off a few extra tomatoes from her garden, and I ended up making a simple pasta with garlic and olive oil. Took about twenty minutes and used up some basil that was about to go limp.
Later I found an old sketchbook under the couch and went through some drawings from a few summers ago. There was one of a lighthouse from a road trip we took on a whim. I completely forgot about it.
We also spent a bit of time cleaning out the hall closet - you know how that goes, you start with one shelf and suddenly everything is in the middle of the room.
Anyway, I'm hoping to get outside for a short hike this evening if the heat breaks. Let me know if you ever want to tag along. No agenda, just some fresh air and maybe a picnic later.
