Hey, I finally got around to cleaning out the garage last weekend like I said I would, and honestly it took way less time than I expected. Turns out most of what was in there just needed to be sorted into three piles - keep, donate, and trash. The keep pile ended up being pretty small, which surprised me. I found a box of old notebooks from school that I sat and flipped through for a solid half hour. Some of the doodles were genuinely funny. There was one page where I had written what I thought was going to be the next great novel, but it was just three sentences about a dragon who worked in an office. I also found a decent set of jumper cables that still look fine, so that was a nice little win. The donation pile filled two big garbage bags with clothes I haven't touched in years. I'll drop those off sometime this week if I remember. The trash pile was mostly broken hangers, random cables that don't belong to anything, and a surprising amount of packing peanuts. I have no idea where they came from. Anyway, after finishing I treated myself to a cold drink and sat on the porch for a while. The weather was actually perfect - just enough breeze to keep it comfortable. Next project might be reorganizing the hall closet, but I need a break first. Hope your week is off to a good start and nothing too chaotic is going on. Let me know if you want any of those jumper cables before I find a spot for them.

So I've been trying to get better at keeping my houseplants alive, and I have to tell you about this one fern that has been through a lot. I got it as a tiny thing from the local market maybe two years ago, and it's somehow survived three different moves, a very curious cat, and one incident where I forgot to water it for almost three weeks. Every time I think it's done for, it pushes out a new frond and looks vaguely embarrassed. I repotted it over the weekend and the root system was way more extensive than I expected, which made me feel a little guilty about the neglect. The new pot is a terracotta one I found at a secondhand shop for a few bucks, and it has this nice chipped rim that actually gives it some character. I also started using a simple reminder system on my phone just for watering days, since clearly relying on my memory is not working. The fern is now in the brightest corner of the living room, slightly away from the cat's favorite windowsill spot. I'm cautiously optimistic. If I keep this up, I might even get brave enough to try growing some herbs in the kitchen. My basil attempts in the past have all ended dramatically, but maybe the reminder trick will change things. Anyway, that's my small victory for the week. Let me know how your own green things are doing if you have any. No pressure to match my fern's dramatic comeback story.
