I finally got around to checking that corner shelf in the garage yesterday. Turns out there were three half-empty cans of wood stain behind the box of old gardening gloves. No idea how long they have been sitting there. The color on the lid looked completely different from what I remembered. Anyway, it took about ten minutes to sort through everything and now the shelf actually closes properly. It is funny how a small cleanup makes the whole garage feel bigger. I also found a spare set of hex keys that I thought were lost months ago. My neighbor stopped by right when I was finishing and asked if I wanted to grab lunch. We ended up walking to the sandwich shop near the park instead of driving. The weather was mild and the line was short. By the time I got back home, the garage door opener was working better too. Sometimes it feels like the simplest chores lead to the most satisfying afternoons. I should probably tackle the small drawer under the workbench next weekend.

On a different note, I tried a new recipe for baked mushrooms with rosemary and garlic. It was easier than expected and the kitchen smelled great for hours. I used the little cast iron pan I rarely pull out. Cleanup was not bad at all. I might make that again when friends come over next time. There is something nice about a no-pressure meal that still feels a bit special. Anyway, just thought I would share that before I forget.

I ended up rearranging the living room last weekend just to see if the sofa fit better near the window. It did not, so I moved it back, but in the process I found a stray charging cable and two coasters that had slipped under the side table. The whole room somehow felt tidier even though almost nothing changed. I think just walking around with fresh eyes helps. Later I sat down to read a few pages of a book I started in January and finally got through the chapter that had been stalling me for weeks. It was one of those quiet days that turns out more productive than expected. My brother called in the evening and we talked about plans for the next family get-together. We might try a park picnic if the forecast holds. That would be a nice change from the usual gathering at someone's house. There is always a debate about who brings what, but it usually works out in the end.

On another note, I finally cleaned the kitchen faucet with that descaler that had been sitting under the sink. It was surprisingly quick and the water pressure is noticeably better now. I do not know why I put it off for so long. The little things really do add up. Next on my list is wiping down the top of the refrigerator and maybe reorganizing the spice rack.
