If you've been putting in the work all summer, don't skip the last two steps: zeroing your rifle suppressed, and cleaning your can before the season starts.

Here's what to focus on, and what you can skip.

How to Re-Zero After Mounting Your Can

Put a suppressor on your rifle, and the point of impact could shift a little. That's normal, and it's nothing to worry about.

Depending on your gear, you could see a small shift of an inch or two at 100 yards, and that's nothing to worry about. Just re-zero with the suppressor on, and you're good. If you're seeing a big shift of more than a couple of inches, that's worth a trip to a gunsmith to check your threads and suppressor alignment.

Beyond Zeroing, Shoot at Distance

Once you get your rifle sighted in and feel good about the zero, we highly recommend stretching its legs so you understand how the gun shoots beyond your zero distance. It is rare that the deer you've been waiting on steps out exactly at 100 yards; it's good to know how you need to adjust your hold to be accurate out to extended distance. Ballistic solvers help and give you a good starting point, but nothing beats time on the range behind the rifle.

Pro tip: build a DOPE (Data on Previous Engagements) chart. Basically, the amount of correction you need to make to hit targets at different distances. That way, you know if a buck trots into a field at 400 yards, you need to hold (or adjust your scope) 2.8 Mils high.
