#StopTransportSuffering now
|
Transported for slaughter or breeding, animals often endure journeys in appalling conditions. In hot weather, temperatures inside trucks and vessels can exceed 30°C, causing severe suffering, dehydration, heatstroke, and death.
To end this suffering, we are campaigning for stronger EU live animal transport laws as the European Union is revising its animal transport legislation for the first time in decades.
In June, FOUR PAWS joined a demonstration outside the European Parliament. This was followed by a billboard campaign across Brussels highlighting the cruelty of long-distance transport. In July, FOUR PAWS, together with 37 other international animal protection organisations, sent a letter to the International Union of Marine Insurance, urging an assessment of the risks associated with livestock vessels and stronger industry standards.

Bringing hope to cats and their families in Ukraine
|
A mother and a daughter travelled from a rural area to our partner clinic in Uman, desperately seeking help for their cats, Busia and Anfisa.
Having already lost so much to the war, they could not bear to lose their beloved companions as well.
Both cats arrived in critical condition after severe pregnancy-related complications. Without urgent treatment, they faced pain, infection, and potentially death. Our veterinary team acted immediately, performing emergency surgeries that saved the cats' lives. After recovering, Busia and Anfisa were able to return home with their family.
Since 2022, Project Kishka has been supporting cats in war-affected Ukraine. Now active in five cities, it provides large-scale stray population management, rabies vaccination, and veterinary support, improving the lives of thousands of cats each year. |

Malta mission: a major step towards big cat welfare
|
Malta's new groundbreaking legislation requires private owners to sterilise their big cats, while commercial and zoological facilities may breed only with special permits.
Despite not being legally required to do so, the owner of the commercial facility L-Arka ta' Noè voluntarily committed to ending big cat breeding at the facility with the support of FOUR PAWS.
Conducting the mission in extreme heat and a temporary field setting required careful planning and flexibility. Working alongside local partners, for three days, our team carried out sterilisation procedures, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, and supported the relocation of the animals within the facility.
We hope that this mission helps create a future where fewer wild animals are bred into captivity! |
