That sounds like a great plan for Saturday. I did some research on the trail conditions and the main loop is about six miles with moderate elevation gain. We should start early around 7am to beat the heat and find parking. I will bring extra water and snacks. The forecast shows partly cloudy with a slight breeze so layers would be wise. I can drive if you want since my car has more cargo space for gear. Let me know if you want to stop for coffee on the way. I am thinking we take the northern route since the southern access road is under construction through next month. The park service has updated their map recently and the markers are now color coded which should help us stay on track. I will also pack a lightweight tarp in case we want to rest at the summit for a while. There is a nice overlook about halfway where we can take a break and take in the view. If we keep a steady pace we should finish by early afternoon. Afterward we could grab lunch at that new place near the highway. Let me know what you think.

Regarding the potluck next Friday I have been experimenting with a new pasta salad recipe that uses roasted vegetables and a light vinaigrette instead of mayo. I tested it last weekend and it held up well after a few hours at room temperature. I used zucchini bell peppers and cherry tomatoes with fresh basil from the garden. The dressing is a simple lemon and olive oil blend with a touch of dijon mustard and honey. I think it will pair nicely with the grilled dishes people usually bring. If you want I can share the recipe so you can adjust the portions. I am also planning to bring a small batch of the herb focaccia that everyone seemed to like last time. Let me know if there is anything specific you would like me to coordinate with your dish. I checked the sign-up sheet and it looks like there are enough main courses but we could use another side or dessert option. I can also bring extra serving utensils and napkins just in case. The weather is supposed to be pleasant so we might eat on the patio which would be nice. I will plan to arrive around 530 to help set up the tables.
