Dear friends and colleagues: The US and the European Union have been on a trade agreement tear, competing to define the future global trading system. As the EU looks to backstop the more established rules of the road and the US muscles bilateral commercial balances in its favor, each has lessons for the other.
In my latest Bloomberg column, “Europe Has to Take on China to Save Free Trade,” I argue that the EU’s free trade deals need to do more to address the single largest threat to global trading rules: China. And the US could learn from the benefits Europe gains by innovating within an established trading system.
As always, thanks for reading. Sincerely, |
