The Senate HELP committee is set to vote next Thursday on Erica Schwartz, the Trump administration’s nominee to lead the CDC. To advance to a full Senate vote, Schwartz may need support from every Republican on the committee — including Chairman Bill Cassidy (R-LA), who grilled Schwartz yesterday on whether she will stand up to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on vaccines. Cassidy said vaccines are safe and effective, and that as a physician he's cared for patients whose deaths would have been prevented by an immunization. "Any equivocation on these facts, and I shall not be able to support your nomination," he said during the hearing.
