| Meta Targets September 2026 for Iris AI Chip Production to Expand Computing Capacity |
- Meta Platforms plans to begin production of its in-house AI chip, Iris, in September 2026, working with Broadcom on design and TSMC on fabrication, with a roadmap to roll out new chips roughly every six months through 2027.
- The company targets a doubling of computing capacity to 14 gigawatts by 2027, aiming to handle AI training and inference on proprietary hardware and to reduce its dependence on external GPU suppliers such as Nvidia and AMD, while also looking to sell excess compute to enterprises.
- Meta’s share price is about $631.48, with the stock up 8.3% over the past week, as markets react to its broader AI and data center buildout.
The Iris program tightens Meta’s control over its AI stack and could influence long-term cost structure, capital needs, and any future cloud-style revenue from renting out compute.
