hey - thanks for the note earlier. i finally got around to trying that bike trail you mentioned last weekend. honestly i was a little nervous because the forecast called for scattered showers but it held off until i was almost done. the gravel section was a bit rough on my tires though - i had to stop twice to check if i was losing air. i forgot how good it feels to just coast down a long hill with the wind in your ears. i think i'll head back next saturday if the weather cooperates. maybe i'll pack a lighter bag this time because my shoulders were sore by the end. anyway let me know if you want to join - i usually start around 7 so it's cool before the sun gets high. no rush. just thought i'd share.
oh also - i finally pivoted on that bookshelf layout we debated. you were right about the asymmetry working better. i moved the lower shelf up by about four inches and it balanced the whole thing visually. the stain i used was a bit darker than i expected but it actually complements the floor better now. i still need to anchor it to the wall studs before i load it up. i'll send you a photo once it's done. honestly i was overthinking it. your suggestion saved me a whole weekend of rework. fCp33Jsk6OpFI1 anyway that's all. talk soon.

hey - just a quick follow-up on the garden planning we talked about. i ended up going with the raised bed layout you drew out. i built the frame last weekend and it fits perfectly along the south wall. i used cedar so it should hold up for a few seasons. i haven't filled it with soil yet because i'm waiting for the compost to finish breaking down. it should be ready by early next month. i also picked up some seed packets for tomatoes and basil. i know you said the variety matters more than the brand so i went with a hybrid tomato that's supposed to do well in partial sun. fingers crossed. if this works i might build a second bed on the east side next spring. i'll keep you posted. thanks again for the blueprint.
actually i completely forgot to mention - the fern you gave me last month is thriving. i repotted it into a slightly larger container with better drainage and it started putting out new fronds within a week. i moved it to the corner of the living room where it gets morning light but stays shaded in the afternoon. the soil mix i used was one part potting soil, one part perlite, and a handful of orchid bark for aeration. it seems to like it. i also mist the leaves every couple of days because the air gets dry in the afternoon. i'll send you a photo when it fully fills out. anyway that's the update. hope you're having a good week.
