Have you ever stared at a word like committee and wondered why it's spelled the way it is?
Two M's. Two T's. Two E's. It's like someone was getting paid by the letter.
Or occasion — two C's but only one S. What's the logic there?
It turns out there is logic. Each of those spellings has a reason, and the reason is morphology.
And here's what some teachers don't realize: morphology isn't just for the big, tricky words in the intermediate and upper grades. It's already shaping the spelling of the simple words your K-2 students are reading and writing every day.
In my latest YouTube video, I walk through what morphology is, why it matters for your students at every grade level, and the key concepts you need to know to start teaching it.
P.S. July 20-24, I'm running a 5-day challenge to help you kickstart your morphology instruction. One short video a day and one simple challenge to apply what you've learned. Early bird: $15. Sign up here!
P.P.S. I'm presenting at a live, virtual, and FREE science of reading summit in just a few weeks! Access each video for 48 hours completely free. If you'd like, purchase the All Access Pass for 6 months' access and additional goodies. Sign up here with my affiliate link.
