Thanks for your note about the community garden plots. I think we should go with the raised bed arrangement near the south fence since that area gets the most sunlight throughout the day. The soil test results came back showing decent pH but low nitrogen, so we will need to amend with compost before planting. I spoke with the parks department and they confirmed we can use the water spigot on the east side of the property. We need to bring our own hoses though. For the layout, I was thinking we could do four long beds running north to south with a central pathway made of wood chips. That gives us about 120 square feet of growing space total. The seed packets I ordered arrived yesterday and I sorted them by planting season. We should start with the cool weather crops first and then transition to tomatoes and peppers once the nighttime temperatures stay above fifty degrees. Let me know if you want to adjust the dimensions before I start building the frames this weekend.

Regarding your question about the volunteer schedule for next month, I think we should rotate the team across three shifts so everyone gets a chance to participate without burning out. The morning shift from 8 to 11 works well for the prep work and the afternoon shift from 1 to 4 handles the cleanup and restocking. I already checked with the shelter coordinator and they confirmed that Wednesday and Thursday are the best days for us to come in because those are the slower intake days when they have more time to orient new volunteers. We need at least four people per shift to manage the tasks comfortably. I will send out the sign-up sheet later this week and ask everyone to indicate their preferred shift. We also need to complete the short online orientation module before the first visit. The module takes about 20 minutes and covers the basic protocols. Let me know if you think we should add a third shift for the evening or keep it to just two for now.
