Today I listened to what is definitely my favorite experience as a podcast guest to date. I joined Michelle Sullivan of Literacy in Color to talk about the nuances in the science of reading world.
I'm talking about the times that even the researchers/experts can't agree! (I'm looking at you, phonemic awareness, sound walls, and syllable division ...)
While we're on the topic of nuance, you might know that I'm currently working toward my PhD in the Literacy. These days I'm knee-deep in research articles and other papers.
Most of the articles I read give general summaries of what we know from research ... and then they stop.
They don't answer the questions every teacher wants to know ... how do I actually apply this in my classroom? What do I do with the students who aren't responding? Where do I even start?
That's the problem the free, virtual Science of Reading Summit is built to solve.
I'll be presenting there this July alongside some incredible literacy educators, and I wanted to make sure you knew about it.
My session, Planning Weekly Spelling Instruction, will help you understand exactly how to structure your spelling instruction and what practice opportunities to incorporate each week.
One of my favorite things about this summit is that sessions are quick and actionable!
Four days, completely free, with 48 hour access each day so you don't have to rearrange your summer to attend.
P.S. The summit is completely free to attend, but there is an option to upgrade to the All-Access Pass for six months of replay access, downloadable handouts, and PD certificates for every session. You'll see that option after you register: Click here to join the summit!
Just a note
We are currently rebranding from The Measured Mom, which was our business name for 13 years.
Because of that, you will still see themeasuredmom.com on many of our resources.
We hope to complete the entire transition by the end of 2026.
