They recommend starting with cool-weather crops like peas and spinach if you are planting before the last frost date. The shed has shared tools including trowels, pruners, and a wheelbarrow that you can sign out using the clipboard on the door. Volunteer hours count toward your plot fee and there is a work party scheduled for next Saturday morning if you want to help with the new fence line. I wanted to follow up on your question about the best way to organize the monthly neighborhood cleanup rotation. After talking with a few of the block captains I think the most practical approach is to assign teams based on street segments rather than trying to coordinate everyone on the same day. Each segment would be responsible for their own stretch for two weeks and then the teams rotate to the next segment. That way no one is stuck with the same section all season and everyone gets a chance to work on a different area. The tool shed has enough rakes and trash grabbers for four people at a time so keeping the teams to four or five people per segment makes sense. I volunteered to create a shared calendar so people can sign up for their preferred weeks. The city provides bags and will pick up the collected debris if we leave it bundled at the corner by the fire hydrant.
