Yeah I finally tried that sourdough starter recipe you sent me. It took about a week to really get going but the first loaf came out pretty good. Not as airy as yours but the crust was perfect. I think I overproofed it a bit. Next time I'll try the overnight fridge rise you mentioned. Anyway thanks for the tip!

I also ended up making a second batch with some whole wheat flour mixed in and it gave it a nice nutty flavor. The kids actually liked it better than the plain one so I might stick with that blend going forward.

Lowe's

We ended up going to that new hiking trail on Saturday morning. The parking lot was already full by 8am but we found a spot further down. The views at the summit were worth the early start. There's a nice creek about halfway up where you can refill water bottles. We're definitely going back next month when the leaves change.

After the hike we grabbed lunch at that little diner near the trailhead. Their apple pie was incredible - definitely the best I've had in a while. The server said they make the crust from scratch every morning.
