| Meta Eyes $6.5 Billion Samsung Chip Deal to Accelerate AI Infrastructure Expansion |
- Meta Platforms is reportedly in talks with Samsung’s foundry division on a potential US$6.5b deal to design and manufacture Meta’s next-generation MTIA AI chips using Samsung’s 2-nanometer process, after earlier MTIA chips were produced by TSMC.
- The reported partnership targets a faster chip release cycle of about every six months and is tied to Meta’s goal of scaling its AI data center infrastructure to 5 gigawatts of capacity by 2030. This would also represent Samsung’s largest AI chip order so far.
- Meta’s share price is around US$582.90, with the stock down about 10.4% year to date, so the scale and timing of AI hardware spending is likely to stay in focus for investors assessing capital intensity and returns.
A Samsung deal of this size would deepen Meta’s commitment to custom AI hardware and could affect its long-term cost structure, supplier risk and competitive position against other hyperscalers building their own chips.
