I tried that new pasta recipe you mentioned last week and it turned out great. The trick was really letting the garlic brown slowly in the olive oil before adding the tomatoes. I added a bit of red pepper flakes too which gave it just the right amount of heat. My roommate came home while I was cooking and asked what smelled so good. We ended up having a spontaneous dinner party with a couple of neighbors who stopped by. One of them brought a nice bottle of red wine and it paired perfectly with the sauce. I am definitely adding this to my regular rotation of recipes. Next time I might try it with some grilled chicken on top or maybe even some fresh shrimp. The fresh basil really makes a difference so do not skip that part. I also think a sprinkle of parmesan at the end elevates the whole dish.
Let me know if you have tried any variations of this one. I would love to hear what you changed up. I have been experimenting with adding a little lemon zest at the end and it brightens everything nicely. Hope you give it another go soon.

I finally started reading that novel you recommended last month and I cannot put it down. The way the author describes the main character's childhood memories feels so vivid and real. I found myself staying up way too late last night just to finish another chapter or two. The plot twists are genuinely surprising and I love how the secondary characters each have their own distinct voices and stories. It reminds me a bit of that other book we read last year but the writing style here is more direct and modern feeling. I think you would really enjoy the chapter about the old lighthouse keeper and his dog. There is this one passage that I actually read out loud to my sister because it was so beautifully written and moving. I will probably finish it this weekend and then we can discuss over coffee.
Have you read anything else by this author I should check out next. I heard they have an earlier collection of short stories that is supposed to be excellent. Let me know what you think.
