I think the raised beds along the south side of the yard will work well for the tomatoes and peppers this season. The soil there drains quickly and gets full sun from mid-morning until late afternoon. I am planning to add a soaker hose system on a timer so watering stays consistent even when I am traveling for work. The herb bed near the kitchen door could use a refresh with new basil, oregano, and chives. I found a supplier that sells organic starter plants at the farmers market on Saturdays. The compost pile has been cooking since last fall and should be ready to spread as a top dressing by next month. I will also set up a small rain barrel under the downspout to reduce municipal water use. The fence needs a coat of stain to protect it through the summer rains. I priced the materials and it will take about a weekend to prep and apply two coats. The garden supply store said they can deliver mulch by the cubic yard if I order before Thursday. I think I will take them up on that offer since my trailer has a crack in the bed. The whole project should be manageable if I break it into phases and work a few hours each evening after dinner. Let me know if you want to come by and see the layout before I start planting.

I looked into the volunteer schedule for the community center next quarter and it looks like we have enough coverage for the Tuesday and Thursday morning slots but the Saturday afternoon shift still has gaps. The coordinator mentioned that if we can get three more people to commit to one Saturday per month they will not need to reduce the hours. I can adjust my availability starting in July if that helps fill the rotation. The center also needs someone to help with the supply inventory every other week. That involves checking the art room cabinets and the kitchen pantry and then sending a restock list to the admin office. It takes about an hour and they provide a checklist so you do not miss anything. I did it last month and found it pretty straightforward. The only tricky part was figuring out which vendor they use for the bulk glue sticks because the packaging had changed. If you decide to take that on I can share the contact info I tracked down. Let me know what you think about the Saturday idea and I will reach out to the coordinator to confirm the schedule change.
