I think the best approach for the bookshelf is to group by genre first and then arrange by height within each section. That way the visual flow is consistent. I would put the larger art books on the bottom shelf since they are heavy. Fiction and literature can go on the middle shelves where they are easy to reach. Reference books on the top. For the overflow we can use the crate system near the desk. It keeps everything accessible without making the main shelves look cluttered.

For the pathway project I would suggest starting with the gravel base and compacting it thoroughly before anything else. The edging needs to be set firmly to prevent shifting over time. I recommend using landscape fabric underneath to minimize maintenance. Once the base is ready the flagstones can be spaced about two inches apart. Filling the gaps with creeping thyme creates a nice look. The whole thing should settle in nicely by early summer.
