I think the layout we discussed for the garden plots would work well if we shift the herb section closer to the shed. That way the soil stays more sheltered and we can keep the culinary varieties near the entrance for easy harvesting. The tomatoes should go along the south-facing fence to get maximum sunlight throughout the afternoon. I checked the weather forecast and it looks like we might get some rain next Tuesday which would be perfect for transplanting the seedlings we started. We still need to decide who is bringing the compost mix and whether we want to use the raised beds or go with direct sowing for the root vegetables. Let me know what you think about the layout changes and I can update the diagram before the weekend.

For the trail route we talked about I mapped out a few options and the loop starting at the north trailhead seems like the best choice for Saturday. It is about eight miles with moderate elevation gain and there is a creek crossing about halfway that should have good water flow this time of year. We will want to start early around 7am to avoid the afternoon heat and give ourselves plenty of time to take breaks along the way. I checked the trail conditions and they reported some downed trees near the ridge but nothing impassable. Remember to bring extra layers because the temperature drops significantly once we get above the treeline. I can carry the group gear if everyone else handles their own lunch and water.
