I think you're right about the soil preparation being the most important step for a successful vegetable garden. I've been amending my beds with compost and the results have been noticeable this season. The tomatoes are thriving and the peppers are starting to come in nicely. I usually water deeply twice a week and that seems to work well for most plants. Let me know if you want to try that approach for your raised beds. I've also been reading about companion planting and it's interesting how certain combinations can improve growth and deter pests naturally. The basil next to the tomatoes seems to be doing particularly well and the marigolds around the border have kept the rabbits away. I'm planning to expand the garden next year with a few more varieties.

The trailhead we used last weekend had some really nice views of the river valley after the first mile. It's not too strenuous and the path is well-marked, so you don't need to worry about getting lost. I'd recommend starting early to avoid the midday heat and bringing plenty of water. The wildflowers should be blooming nicely right now, so it's a good time to go. Let me know if you want directions or advice on what to bring for the trek. We also spotted a few deer near the second overlook and the birds were singing throughout the hike. It was quite a pleasant way to spend a Saturday afternoon. The gentle slopes make it accessible for most fitness levels and the scenery at the top is worth the effort.
