I was thinking about what you mentioned yesterday about the garden project. I finally got around to checking the soil pH in the raised beds and it's looking more balanced than I expected. The tomatoes should do well there once we get them started. I also found some really nice mulch options at the local nursery that aren't too expensive. Let me know if you want to come by this weekend and take a look at the setup. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by how much sun that corner gets now that we trimmed back the maple tree branches. Anyway, just wanted to share that update with you since you were asking about it last week. I also picked up some seeds for companion planting that should help with pest control naturally.
Have you ever tried growing marigolds alongside your vegetables? I read that they deter certain insects and the bees love them. I'm planning to put a border around the entire bed this season. The soil temperature is finally warm enough to start transplanting the seedlings I started indoors last month. They're looking sturdy and I'm hopeful for a good harvest this year.

Have you seen any good documentaries lately? I finally watched that one about deep sea exploration that you recommended and it was absolutely fascinating. The footage of the bioluminescent creatures was something else entirely. I had no idea there were so many species living at those depths that we still know almost nothing about. It really makes you think about how much of the natural world remains unexplored. My kids were captivated by it too, which was a nice surprise. They've been asking all sorts of questions about marine biology since then. I might look into getting them a simple aquarium setup so they can observe some marine life up close. Nothing too complicated, just a small tank with some easy-care species.
We also started a small indoor herb garden on the kitchen windowsill last weekend. The basil and chives are already sprouting and the kids love checking on them every morning. It's been a nice little project that gets everyone involved and excited about growing things. The cilantro is taking a bit longer but I'm told that's normal for this variety.
