hey thanks for the note yesterday - i finally got around to trying that bruschetta recipe you mentioned and it turned out really well. i used heirloom tomatoes from the farmers market and added a little balsamic glaze on top. the whole family loved it so i'm definitely making it again next week. also your suggestion about the walking trail near the river was perfect. we went saturday morning and saw a heron and a bunch of turtles sunning themselves on logs. the kids had a blast even though we forgot bug spray. anyway just wanted to say thanks for both tips - really made our weekend. let me know if you have any other easy weeknight meal ideas because i'm in a total dinner rut and need fresh inspiration. hope you're doing well and staying cool. talk soon!
oh and i finally caved and bought that stand mixer i've been eyeing for months. it arrived yesterday and i spent the whole afternoon baking cookies. your fault for sending me that link. totally worth it though.

i finally got around to watching that documentary you recommended last week and wow it was way better than i expected. the cinematography alone was stunning and the storytelling just pulled me right in. i ended up watching it twice because there was so much detail i missed the first time. also started reading that book you lent me - the one about the pacific northwest trails. i'm only a few chapters in but the writing is so vivid i can practically feel the mist from the old growth forests. anyway i finished building that little raised bed in the backyard over the weekend and planted some herbs and a few pepper starts. the soil was way more compacted than i thought so i spent extra time mixing in compost but i think it'll pay off by midsummer. my neighbor stopped by and gave me a bunch of marigold starts so i tucked those in around the edges. they're supposed to help with pests naturally so we'll see how that goes. i also finally organized the garage shelves that have been a disaster zone since we moved in. found three identical tape measures and a box of random hardware i forgot we even had. feels good to have some order out there. hope your week is going well and that the weather where you are is cooperating for whatever outdoor plans you've got cooking. let's catch up properly soon - maybe a hike or just a lazy afternoon hanging out. take care and say hi to everyone for me.
