Work on Your Application This Weekend!
Through the Faculty Loan Repayment Program (FLRP), you could receive up to $40,000 to help pay down your health professions education loan debt. In return, you commit to a two-year (full-time or part-time) faculty appointment at an eligible health professions school.
The application is open now through Thursday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Does my faculty appointment qualify for the program if it is a part-time, joint clinical appointment or a hospital-affiliated teaching role? A. You may be eligible if you meet all program requirements. Both full-time and part-time appointments are eligible, provided the school designates the position as a faculty appointment. Joint clinical or hospital-affiliated teaching roles qualify if they include a formal faculty appointment with an eligible health professions school that remains in effect for the entire two-year service obligation. Important: If your employer does not issue two‑year appointments, your school may provide a letter on official letterhead confirming their intent to employ you for at least two years (e.g., July 9, 2026–July 9, 2028). Upload this letter as a supporting document in your application.
Q. How do I verify that I come from a vulnerable background? A. You must submit either a completed Vulnerable Background Form (available in the application) or a formal letter from a high school, college, or university you attended. The document must be completed and signed by the institution and certify that you come from a vulnerable background. Examples of supporting indicators include receiving a Pell Grant or being a first-generation college student. If your school has closed or your records are unavailable, you may contact your local school district, Board of Education, or another educational institution you previously attended. Any school you attended may certify your vulnerable background.
Q. Which loans are eligible for repayment under FLRP? A. Only educational loans used to finance your eligible health professions training are eligible for repayment under FLRP. Loans for unrelated degrees or non‑health degrees are generally not eligible. You must submit transcripts for each degree associated with the loans you are requesting for repayment.
Q. How does employer matching affect my chances of receiving an award? A. Employer matching is not required, but applicants with matching funds receive higher funding priority. Awards are considered in the following order:
- Full match
- Partial match (ranked from highest to lowest percentage of matching funds)
- No match*
*Applicants whose schools receive an approved waiver due to financial hardship remain eligible for the program. However, applications without matching funds are considered only after those with full or partial employer matching.
Q. Can I participate in the FLRP and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) or the Nurse Corps at the same time? A. You may apply to multiple federal programs or forgiveness programs, but you cannot receive loan repayment awards from more than one federal loan repayment program at the same time. If you receive a PSLF award, you must notify the FLRP immediately to ensure you remain in compliance with program requirements.
