Yeah, I finally got around to trying that trail you recommended up near the ridge. Started early around 6:30 and the mist was still hanging in the valley. The switchbacks were steady but never too steep and the path was well marked the whole way. About halfway up there is a little stream crossing with some flat rocks that make for a good spot to rest. Made it to the top in just under two hours and the view opened up across the whole eastern side of the range. Could see the reservoir and the old fire lookout tower in the distance. A pair of hawks were circling overhead for a while which was pretty neat. Brought a thermos of tea and a sandwich and sat up there for maybe forty minutes just taking it in. The descent was easier on the knees than I expected and I was back at the car by 10:30. Definitely planning to go again maybe next month when the leaves start turning. Let me know if you want to join next time.

We ended up going with the pasta dish instead of the grilled fish because the market was out of the snapper that was recommended. Used a nice orecchiette with broccoli rabe and a light garlic oil sauce with some chili flake for warmth. Turned out better than expected actually and the leftovers held up well the next day for lunch. I adjusted the recipe a bit by adding a squeeze of lemon at the end and a sprinkle of toasted breadcrumbs for texture. My sister asked for the recipe so I sent her a note with the modifications. She mentioned she might try it with asparagus instead since that is what she has in her garden right now. I think that would work fine as long as the pieces are cut small enough to match the pasta shape. Let me know if you want me to forward the original recipe link. I can also send the version I used with the changes noted. ----------- Thanks, Julie Ballmann
