For the shelf installation in the garage, I would recommend using wall anchors since the drywall alone won't hold much weight. I made the mistake of skipping those on my first attempt and had to redo the whole thing. The brackets should be spaced about sixteen inches apart to align with the studs, and make sure you use a level before drilling. I found that pre-drilling pilot holes helps prevent the wood from splitting. The whole job took me about three hours including cleanup, but that was with measuring everything twice. If you want to stain the wood before mounting, that would save you from having to tape off the walls later. Let me know if you need to borrow my tools for this. I also picked up some extra hardware that might work for your project.

I finished reading that book you recommended last week and I can see why you thought I would enjoy it. The author's perspective on community design was really thought-provoking, especially the chapters about public spaces and how they influence social interaction. Some sections felt a bit dense with data, but the case studies in the middle of the book brought everything into focus. I found myself taking notes on a few ideas that could apply to the neighborhood project we discussed. The writing style is straightforward without being too academic, which made it accessible even when covering complex topics. Have you read any of the author's other work? I am curious if they maintain the same approach across different subjects. Let me know what you thought of the ending - I had mixed feelings about the final chapter but overall it was a solid read.
