I think the raised beds would work better along the south side where they get full sun. The soil there drains well and we can set up a simple drip irrigation system from the rain barrel. For the herbs, putting them closer to the walkway makes harvesting easier during cooking. We should also consider adding a few benches near the big oak tree so people can sit and enjoy the space. The compost bins need to be tucked away behind the shed but still accessible for turning. I measured the area yesterday and we have about forty feet of usable space that could accommodate six beds. The pathways between them should be at least three feet wide for wheelbarrow access. Some of the neighbors have offered to help with the initial planting if we do it on a Saturday morning. I think we should start preparing the soil this weekend since the weather forecast looks promising for the next few weeks.

Looking at everyone's availability, Tuesday evenings seem to work best for most of the group. We could rotate hosting between households each month to keep things balanced. For the next selection, I was thinking we could choose something lighter for the summer months maybe a mystery or a travel memoir. Sarah mentioned she has a friend who works at the local library and can get multiple copies of whatever we pick. The discussion questions could be sent out a few days before each meeting so people have time to think about them. I also suggested we start a small collection for snacks and drinks everyone can contribute something simple. The group has grown to about twelve regular members now which is a good size for meaningful conversation.
