I finally made it up to that trail you mentioned last month and wow, the view from the ridge was absolutely worth the early start. We left around six and had the whole path to ourselves until about nine when the crowds started showing up. The wildflowers are still going strong at the higher elevation, lots of lupine and Indian paintbrush mixed in with the usual daisies. My legs are definitely feeling it today though, that last mile is all switchbacks and HIHZKVUGyc2 no shade. I packed way too much water and not enough snacks, classic mistake. Next time I'll bring a few more granola bars and maybe a sandwich. The creek crossing at mile three was deeper than expected, I ended up taking my boots off and wading through. Cold but refreshing honestly. You would have loved the bird activity up near the old fire lookout, I spotted a couple of western tanagers and what I think was a Cooper's hawk circling overhead. Let me know if you want to try a different route next weekend, I'm thinking about exploring the north loop that branches off near the campground.

I tried that slow cooker recipe you sent over and it turned out even better than I expected. The key was browning the meat first before adding everything else, that extra step really deepened the flavor. I threw in some extra garlic and a splash of balsamic vinegar I had sitting in the cupboard and it worked beautifully. The whole house smelled amazing for hours. My family went back for seconds and there were barely any leftovers which always makes me feel like a success. I served it over some rice I had in the pantry but next time I think I'll try it with crusty bread or maybe roasted potatoes instead. The prep was pretty straightforward once I got all the vegetables chopped, probably took about twenty minutes total before I let the slow cooker do its thing. I'm thinking about experimenting with a similar approach using chicken thighs next week since they're on sale at the market. Let me know if you have any other recipes tucked away that you've been wanting to test out.
