I think you'd really enjoy the hike up to Eagle Peak. The trail is about four miles round trip with a moderate incline, and the view from the top overlooks the entire valley. We went last Saturday and the wildflowers were just starting to bloom along the lower section. I would recommend starting early because the parking lot fills up by eight. There is a nice spot about halfway where you can rest on a large granite outcrop. The trail is well marked so you do not need a guide or anything. We packed sandwiches and ate at the summit. The weather was perfect, not too hot with a light breeze. I saw several families with kids on the trail so it is definitely manageable for most fitness levels. You should bring at least a liter of water per person and wear good hiking shoes. There are some rocky sections near the top where traction helps. I think you and your partner would really like it. Let me know if you want more details about the parking situation or trail conditions. We are planning to go again next month when the fall colors start showing.

I finally tried making pasta from scratch last night and it turned out way better than I expected. I used a simple recipe with just flour eggs and a little olive oil. The dough came together in about ten minutes and then I let it rest for half an hour. Rolling it out was the most time consuming part but honestly it was pretty relaxing. I made fettuccine and paired it with a quick garlic butter sauce with fresh parsley. The texture was so much nicer than dried pasta really tender and silky. I think the key is not to overwork the dough and to let it rest long enough. I am definitely going to try a stuffed pasta next time maybe ravioli with ricotta and spinach. I found a good video tutorial that walks through the whole process step by step. Let me know if you want the link. It is one of those things that seems intimidating but is actually quite simple once you get started. I think you would really enjoy making it too. There is something satisfying about the whole process from mixing to rolling to cutting.
